Forest School

At Intack Primary School, Forest School sessions are becoming an important part of our learning. Children explore, learn and develop in the outdoors whatever the season. Research shows, that time spent outdoors has a positive effect on children’s health.

Forest School has been defined as:

“An inspirational process that offers children, young people and adults regular opportunities to achieve, and develop confidence and self esteem through hands-on learning experiences in a woodland environment” Institute for Outdoor Learning (IOL) and Council for Learning Outside the Classroom (CLOTC), 2002.

In our Forest School sessions children are taught to:

  • be equal, unique and valuable
  • be competent to explore & discover
  • experience appropriate risk and challenge
  • choose, and to initiate and drive their own learning and development
  • experience regular success
  • develop positive relationships with themselves and other people
  • develop a strong, positive relationship with their natural world.
