In History, we learnt about Crime and Punishment, comparing the Anglo-Saxon justice system with the modern British justice system.

The children worked in groups and were given a case study to investigate. Each group took on the role of either Anglo-Saxon people, modern-day British citizens or members of a jury. They had to discuss the evidence and present arguments based on the views and laws of their assigned group.

Some things never change, and the children quickly discovered that people can have very different opinions about what is fair. A lively and thoughtful debate followed, and although not everyone agreed with each other, the children listened respectfully, considered different viewpoints and reached fair conclusions based on the evidence presented.
