As part of World Art Week, our Reception children have been learning about the artist Piet Mondrian.
The children learnt that Mondrain was from the Netherlands.
The children explored his distinctive style, noticing how he used bold black horizontal and vertical lines to create different shapes, and how he carefully chose to work with just the three primary colours: red, blue and yellow.
Through discussion and observation, the children shared their ideas about Mondrian’s artwork and began to understand the techniques he used to create his famous pieces.
Inspired by his work, the children then created their own artwork in the style of Mondrian. They experimented with a variety of media, including pastels, paint, chalk, tissue paper and wax crayons. This allowed them to explore texture, colour and line in creative and engaging ways.
It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they expressed their ideas and developed their artistic skills.
Keep an eye out for Reception's final Mondrain Masterpieces next week! 🎨🟥🟦🟨
