Global Recycling Day

On Wednesday, we celebrated Global Recycling Day. We began by exploring different types of materials that can be recycled and worked together to sort them into categories. This helped us understand the importance of recognising and separating recyclable materials.

We then learned and discussed the key vocabulary: reduce, reuse, recycle. Focusing on the idea of reusing, we shared ideas about how everyday waste can be given a new purpose. Inspired by this, the children decided to create their own small world using junk modelling materials.

Working as a team, the children designed and built:

  • A house with a slide
  • A bridge with ladders
  • A car
  • A river with fish
  • A tent with trees

All of these creations were made from cardboard, plastic and other reused materials.
This hands-on activity helped the children understand how important it is to look after our wonderful world and how small actions can make a big difference.
