Number Formation in Action 🔢✏️

This week we have been working extremely hard on our number formation. The children have been practising how to correctly write numbers, paying close attention to where to start the number and the direction of each number. We have used rhymes to help us remember how to form out numbers.

Our rhymes are:

0 - Back around the lemon

1 - Straight down the birthday candle

2 - Round the swan's head, across its body and stop. Glide to the wings.

3 - Round the searhorses' head and stop. Curve round its body.

4 - Down the branch and stop. Across the branch and cut through the cactus.

5 - Put the king's crown on and stop. Down his head and round his tummy.

We explored different ways to practise, including writing numbers in the air, tracing them with our fingers, and using pencils and whiteboards. The children showed great determination and concentration as they worked to improve their number writing skills.

Developing correct number formation helps build confidence and supports early maths learning. We are very proud of the effort everyone has put in and the progress we have seen.

Well done Reception – keep up the fantastic work!
