Reception have had a fantastic time learning all about dinosaurs! We discovered that dinosaurs lived millions of years ago and learned that different dinosaurs could fly, swim, or walk on land. We enjoyed finding out interesting facts about these amazing prehistoric creatures and sharing our favourite dinosaurs with our friends.
Our learning inspired lots of creative activities. We used playdough and clay to make our own dinosaurs, carefully shaping and adding details to bring them to life. We also designed colourful dinosaur eggs and created our own dinosaur pictures using vibrant oil pastels.
In our art work, we explored different techniques to create dinosaur habitats. We painted beautiful sunset landscapes using watercolours and added texture by collaging with tissue paper. We also worked together to create an exciting volcano scene using paper mâché, Modroc and paint.
In the construction area, the children showed excellent teamwork and imagination by building large dinosaurs using big wooden construction blocks. We also enjoyed creating erupting volcano paintings, using splatting and dabbing techniques to represent the hot lava bursting from the volcanoes.
Our dinosaur topic was brought to life through the wonderful story Harry and the Bucketful of Dinosaurs, which became a class favourite. The children loved listening to the adventures and talking about their favourite parts of the story.
It has been a truly roarsome topic filled with creativity, exploration and fun learning!
