Our Reception children have been busy getting creative during our Minibeast topic by designing and making their very own minibeasts using a wonderful range of junk modelling materials!
Before creating their models, the children spent time carefully observing real minibeasts, looking closely at the size and shapes of their body parts. They talked about and named different features such as heads, bodies, legs, wings and antennae, building their understanding of how minibeasts are structured.
The children then planned their creations, thinking about which junk materials would be best for each body part. They explored a wide variety of resources, choosing from cardboard, paper, cellophane, tissue paper and more to bring their ideas to life.
As they built their minibeasts, the children used a range of tools and techniques to join materials together, including masking tape, cellotape, glue and even a hot glue gun with adult support. They also practised their cutting skills, using scissors to shape and adapt different materials.
This activity encouraged the children to explore, experiment and problem-solve as they worked, developing both their creativity and fine motor skills. We were so impressed with their imaginative designs and the care they took in constructing their minibeasts!
What a fantastic way to combine art, science and hands-on learning! πΏπ
