  • Protecting Our Planet: Reception’s David Attenborough 100th Birthday Celebration 🌍🐻‍❄️🌳

Reception had a wonderful time celebrating the 100th birthday of David Attenborough through a range of exciting and meaningful activities all linked to caring for our planet.

To begin our celebrations, the children made their very own microphones ready for a special documentary-style presentation in assembly. The children loved pretending to be nature presenters as they confidently shared what they had learned with the rest of the school.

Throughout the day, we explored the important topic of global warming and discovered how climate change is affecting polar bears and their Arctic habitats. The children showed great curiosity as they learned about the challenges animals face when ice melts and habitats begin to disappear.

We also learned about tree conservation and discussed why trees are so important for wildlife. The children discovered that chopping down trees can destroy the homes of many animals living in woodland habitats. This helped us think carefully about how we can all help to protect our environment.

As part of our learning, each child wrote their own special ECO promise, sharing simple but important ways they can help care for the Earth. Some promises included recycling more, turning off lights, planting flowers for wildlife and helping to keep our playground tidy by picking up litter and putting it in the bin.

The children also enjoyed getting creative by making beautiful landscape collages inspired by Arctic and woodland habitats. Using a variety of materials, they carefully created snowy scenes, forests and animal homes linked to our learning.

To finish our celebrations, Reception proudly presented their findings about protecting our Earth during a Lower School assembly. The children spoke confidently and enthusiastically, showing fantastic knowledge and teamwork throughout.

We are incredibly proud of Reception for their thoughtful ideas, creativity and enthusiasm while celebrating such an inspiring naturalist and learning how we can all help to protect our wonderful world.
