At Intack Primary School we follow the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds phonics programme. This programme is delivered as a whole class teaching approach and is delivered by class teachers in EYFS and KS1.
In addition to whole class phonics lesson, keep-up sessions are delivered by trained teaching assistants for those children who require additional support and practise to acquire and embed their phonic knowledge and skills.

Update about the Phonics Screening Check 2024
This year (2024), Year 1 children will take their phonics screening check during the week commencing 10th June. During the phonics screening check, your child will read 40 words out loud to their teacher and these words will be a mixture of ‘real’ and ‘pseudo’ (alien) words. In your child’s end of year report, you will find out how your child has done during the check and their teacher will assess whether your child needs additional practise for reading. If your child requires further practise, your child will re-sit the phonics screening check again when they move up into year two. If you would like to know any further information about the phonics screening check and what it entails, please speak to your child’s class teacher.
Thank you for your support.
