Science is taught as a discrete subject, often linked to the Creative Curriculum theme. Teaching staff plan the work in both key stages. The work covered in Key Stage 1 builds on the nationally recognised curriculum for pupils aged under five. Pupils in Reception develop their knowledge, understanding and skills through play activities and direct teaching from which the pupils undertake planned tasks. Differentiation, within the year group/class, will be through task or outcome to ensure all children have access to the curriculum. Science is taught in a “hands on” way where possible and activities are created to develop the scientific enquiry skills of the children. We encourage children to ask “Why/How?” questions and encourage them to develop awe and wonder for our world.
