Intent

Impact
At Intack Primary School, we strive to foster a strong sense of belonging within our diverse school community, embodied in our motto, “Proud to Belong.” Our students come from a wide range of backgrounds, and it is essential that our History curriculum reflects this diversity.

The study of History at Intack will help our pupils appreciate the complexity of people’s lives, the diversity of societies, and the relationships between different groups throughout time. We aim to build their understanding of significant events and individuals in global, British, and local history, from the pioneering figures of early Islamic civilisation to key events such as The Great Fire of London.

We will explore how societies have evolved, recognising that change is ongoing, and that each of us is part of the broader story of History. Our curriculum will cover the National Curriculum’s History programmes of study, with Foundation Stage activities aligned to the Understanding the World Development Matters statements and Early Learning Goals. These early experiences lay the foundation for more in-depth historical learning in Key Stage 1 and beyond.

Through thoughtfully selected themes, we aim to develop empathy for others and offer opportunities for reflection on past mistakes, preparing our pupils to engage thoughtfully with the world around them. In each year group, we will focus on developing chronological understanding, making connections across time, and cultivating a secure knowledge of History.

Our curriculum also encourages pupils to understand how historians study the past and construct their accounts, providing our pupils with the tools to carry out their own historical enquiries.

By delivering a broad, rich History curriculum that fulfils the National Curriculum’s requirements, we are committed to promoting the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental, and physical development of all our pupils, and inspiring a life-long love of learning.
