Welcome back to school for the Summer Term!

Intent

At Intack Primary school, we aim for all children to access high quality art lessons that enable them to develop and explore their creativity so that they can reach and exceed their potential.

Our Art curriculum encourages our children to develop their skills by exploring a range of media and materials. Children learn the skills of drawing, painting, collage and sculpture and are provided with the opportunities to explore and evaluate their ideas. Children are introduced to a range of different artists to develop their own styles and vocabulary. They will have the opportunities to broaden their knowledge and understanding about the differences and similarities of these artists and be able to make links to their own work. The skills they acquire are then applied to their cross-curricular topics, allowing children to use their art skills to explore topics at greater depth.

During art lessons, children are expected to reflect and evaluate their own work, thinking about how they can make changes and keep improving. This is always meaningful and personalised to the child with either verbal or written feedback.

We recognise that Art is a great starting point for children to develop language and communication between their peers and members of staff when they arrive at Intack. We allow children to express themselves through a range of different media and materials. We intend to continue this love of Art throughout their journey at school by celebrating as a school - through our corridor displays, annual whole school Art exhibition and the development of our Art’s Council.

We aim for our children to meet the aims of the National Curriculum by:
•    Producing creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences.
•    Becoming proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques.
•    Evaluating and analysing creative works using the language of art, craft and design.
•    Know about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms.

At Intack we believe that the arts should be an integral part of every child’s learning and school experience. As an Arts Mark school we aim to provide an environment where the arts (including art and design, drama, music, crafts, dance and creative writing) are highly valued, encouraged and celebrated. Our mission statement states ‘We are a warm and caring school. Everybody within our school is to feel secure, valued is to be treated with dignity and respect and to achieve their full potential’. The arts allow us to do this and we provide an arts curriculum that inspires pupil’s creativity and imaginations, through a range of teaching and learning and extra-curricular experiences. We believe that every child is an artist and we seek to develop and nurture their creativity as well as encouraging self-expression and raising self-esteem.
