At Intack Primary School, we teach Phonics using the Letters and Sounds Scheme taken from the DfE. We incorporate the mnemonics from the Read, Write, Inc. scheme to help children remember the sounds and when to apply them.
Letters and Sounds is a phonics resource published by the Department for Education and Skills in 2007. It aims to build children's speaking and listening skills in their own right as well as to prepare children for learning to read by developing their phonic knowledge and skills. It sets out a detailed and systematic programme for teaching phonic skills for children. (http://www.letters-and-sounds.com/what-is-letters-and-sounds.html)

Year 1 Phonics Screening Check
The check will take place in June when your child will read 40 words out loud to a teacher. You’ll find out how your child did, and their teacher will assess whether he or she needs extra help with reading. If your child does not do well enough in the check they’ll have to do it again in Year 2. (GOV.UK)
